China Standard Certification Center (CSC) has certified more than 10,000 products manufactured by 605 domestic companies as energy energy-efficient products, according to a report from Xinhua.net. Direct of CSC integration department Cui Hua said products in 55 categories from almost 350 companies were submitted in the first half. The certification program has two categories—energy and water efficiency—covering 68 kind of products, including home appliances, lighting, electrical machinery, construction products and office equipment. The certification program started with residential refrigerators in 1998, with about 20 products certified in the first year, but gained pace since2004 with a yearly growth rate of about 50 percent. According to Cui Hua, CSC integration department director, the acceleration resulted from the gradual establishment of the certification system and the government’s promotion of energy efficiency. Cui added that the standard will be constantly upgraded to keep up with the latest energy conservation technology. In a survey conducted by CSC, it showed that more than 20 percent of Chinese consumers recognized the labels provided to energy-efficient products. The survey also found that energy efficiency was the third most important factor for consumers in purchasing after quality and brand name even though such products tend to be more expensive than regular ones. More products will eventually be added to the certification list including industrial and architectural products, Cui said. (() |
