BANGALORE, India — Cellular-phone giant Nokia Corp. has received a $125 million contract from Bharti Tele-Ventures, India’s leading GSM-based service provider. Under the contract, Finland’s Nokia will manage the GSM/GPRS/EDGE networks in eight circles within India. Nokia will provide managed services and expand Bharti’s GSM reach in that nation. By March of next year, Bharti’s coverage is expected to double from the 2,700 towns it now operates in India. The contract also requires Nokia to deliver radio, core network equipment and services based on Bharti’s needs. Earlier in 2004, Nokia had won a $275 million order from Bharti for equipment and managed services.
