NEW YORK — Thomson and Taiwan’s BenQ Corp. said Tuesday (Dec. 6) they have settled a patent dispute involving LCD display technology. Paris-based Thomson had sued BenQ (Taoyuan, Taiwan) for infringing patents on its LCD color display monitors and LCD TV receivers. Thomson said the settlement includes dismissal of pending litigation against BenQ and dismissal of a complaint brought by Thomson against BenQ before the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC). BenQ also agreed to drop its litigation against Thomson and a separate ITC complaint. Additional details of the settlement were not disclosed. Thomson sued BenQ and AU Optronics Corp., also based in Taiwan, earlier this year for infringing its LCD patents and filed a complaint with the ITC. Thomson’s complaint initially sent shockwaves through Taiwan, according to reports there, because AU Optronics supplies Thomson with LCD panels and BenQ previously supplied LCD TVs to Thomson.
