A recent report from CCID Consulting Co. Ltd showed that China’s pure-audio MP3 player market fell 52 percent in 1H07 compared to the same period last year. Per the CCID statistics, a total of 1.19 million MP3 players were sold in China in the first half of 2007, down 52 percent from the 2.48 million sold in same period in 2006. Sales revenues reached $89.9 million, down 58.9 percent compared to $199 billion in 1H06. With the diversification of portable players and consumer demands, players with only basic functions can no longer meet consumers’ needs. Many firms have shifted their efforts to the video MP3 and portable player field. Currently, there is a high level of brand concentration in the pure-audio MP3 player market led by Apple, Samsung and Sony. In addition, as the price of pure-audio MP3 player drops and their storage capacity increases, the market structure has changed significantly, CCID said. In the first half of 2007, 256Mbyte and 512Mbyte pure-audio MP3 players saw a drop in their overall market shares, while 1Gbyte pure audio MP3 players became the mainstream in the market. (() |
