SCHAUMBURG, Ill., Aug. 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- With the goal of bringing together Motorola''s software capabilities for driving Seamless Mobility, Motorola, Inc. (NYSE: MOT) today appointed Dr. John G. Waclawsky Motorola Software Architect. In this role, Dr. Waclawsky will provide the leadership to drive coherent software development that delivers converged end- to-end solutions in technology areas such as security, network management, mobility, networking middleware, software agent and software development environments. He reports to Anson Chen, corporate vice president, Motorola Global Software. Dr. Waclawsky holds over thirty-six US patents with over a dozen pending, and is a prolific author with more than thirty papers and articles. He received a Master''s degree in Computer and Information Sciences from the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master''s Degree and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Maryland. Dr. Waclawsky was the Technical Plenary Chair of the Mobile Wireless Internet Forum and is currently a member of the Open Mobile Alliance board and editor of the WiMAX Network Working Group. He was also awarded IBM''s top suggestion award in 1990. Dr. Waclawsky most recently served as a technical leader for the Mobile Wireless Group at Cisco Systems, where he was responsible for the definition of the mobile wireless architecture and the identification of solution requirements and eco-system partners that supported the convergence of wireless networks and the Internet. Early at Cisco, he served as a key member of the IOS software architecture team and he was a member of both IOS and MWG patent review boards. Before joining Cisco, Dr. Waclawsky spent more than 20 years at IBM in a number of technical and management leadership positions. His numerous contributions included pioneering work that lead to the development of a number of profitable services, including a Network Traffic Analysis expert system still in commercial use today. He has in-depth experience specifying networking and software architectures and served as a founder and member of the IBM Consulting Board for the networking, application, database and the systems management consulting practices.
