China group to set standard for e-waste testing

The China Communications Standards Association has set up a special task team to study a standard for recycling e-waste and the standard for testing harmful chemicals in electronic products.

Of the two, the standard for testing harmful chemicals will be mandatory and will require all electronics communications products manufactured in the region to be tested first before they hit the market, according to a ChinaTechNews.com report.

The standard will be close to EU’s WEEE and RoHS directives to help China companies, particularly those that export products to Europe, maintain electronics communications components that comply with the EU policies.

The establishment of the special task team will enable the China Communications Standards Association to supervise and evaluate the environment testing capacities of the domestic communications testing institutions in China.
